Painless  Era

Mixed media on polyester fibre / variable size / 2024

The ‘Painless Era’ is a utopian pain-free world that I have imagined on the basis of CIPA and man's innate fear of pain, in which people are completely shielded from the pain of animals and themselves, and have tasted the sweetness of being pain-free. However, it will not be long before lifestyles, social relationships, ethics, and profit motives will spiral out of control, and people will realise that pain is an integral part of experience and that it should exist.
The project will use fabric to create a set of monuments, digitally printed and ice-dyed,
leaving memories and markers in a material way, narrated by images and text,
through which viewers can learn about the story of the ‘Painless Era ’ and be reminded of the necessity of the existence of pain.

This project is a heartfelt dialogue between sound, illustration and video,
in which the voices of me, my mother and my grandmother are intertwined to create a warm ‘trio’.
The images in the installation are like fragments of time, recreating the emotional connection and life inheritance of three generations of women in an East Asian family.
This is not only a retrospective of memories, but also a sincere look at love and bonding,
allowing the audience to feel the deep emotional ties between generations through the overlapping of voices.
